Who we are?
Little Angels was set up to promote, support and protect breastfeeding in the community whilst working in conjunction with Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust, Health Professionals, Voluntary Groups and Children’s Centres to provide a seamless approach to breastfeeding using the UNICEF Baby Friendly 10 steps and 7 point plan.
What we do?
Currently we provide antenatal support alongside midwives' clinics in the North East Derbyshire (Bolsover & Shirebrook) area. We are planning to extend this across our commissioned area, in the very near future. This allows us to provide mums with appropriate breastfeeding information during their pregnancy.
We have 11 girls who work in the community and once discharged mums can expect a visit from a Little Angel within 48 hours, with a second visit within 10 days. Mum should expect at least two visits and further visits are available upon request.
Our helpline is available for all mums regardless of which area of Chesterfield they live in. It is manned on a voluntary basis by our experienced peer supporters and is available 7 days a week 365 days a year. We are here to help with any problems big or small.
We hold a list of all the local support groups in the area so we can refer you to your nearest one. Some groups are run by a Little Angel but we also work very closely with the volunteer network, the ‘Derbyshire Breastfeeding Supporters’. If you are a mum, living outside our area, we can provide support through our 24 helpline, but also provide details about your local voluntary groups.
