What we do

Our peer supporters are a team of local mums, who have received training to support breastfeeding families.

Here in South West Essex we currently provide:-

• Antenatal Support

All the information you need to help you make an informed choice about how to feed your baby .Learn about the benefits of breastfeeding (for you, Baby and the whole family!), what to expect in the early days and share any concerns with the supporter or with mums.

Antenatal support can be offered on a one to one basis in your own home or at an antenatal group which run across the county. We also work closely with Basildon & Thurrock university hospital and are pleased to be involved with the regular parent craft sessions held on Saturdays.

• Hospital support at the maternity unit at Basildon and Thurrock Hospital.

Our peer supporters are available at Basildon and Thurrock University hospital to provide help and support on the maternity unit. We can give information about the basics of breastfeeding so you feel comfortable feeding at home.

• Home and community

If you live within the area of Basildon, Billericay or Wickford, and are discharged as a breastfeeding mother one of our trained peer supporters will contact you within 48 hours of leaving hospital to arrange to see you at home for a visit.
